Overcoming Adversity And Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Out of the adversity of a two decades long civil-war and the trauma of losing four of her siblings and both parents Monica was exposed to horrors no-one should have to endure. Now here in her new country of Australia she feels embraced and protected and is able to realise her dreams. However, she realises that there are still little girls, orphans and disabled people in South Sudan going through the same pain and rejection that she once encountered. Orphans are made into slaves, child-brides are sold for the price of a few cows and women suffer domestic violence. These atrocities continue to this day. After 27 years she returned to her birthplace of Aweil, South Sudan, for the first time and together with her husband Daniel formed an organisation called New Jerusalem Family Homes with a vision to provide a family home where broken, abandoned, abused, orphaned and vulnerable children can experience love and protection. We don't like to use the word orphanage because NJFH is a place where children find a loving family and become orphans no more.
